Unique experiences at the Swiss Cycling Alpenbrevet 2022

Despite adverse weather forecasts the September 3 showed itself from a surprisingly pleasant side. 3’000 participants from 28 countries took this unique alpine classic to reach the finish in Andermatt. The Tremola was a unique premiere and held almost exclusively smiling faces despite unpleasant cobblestones. The next Alpenbrevet will take place on September 2, 2023. Registration opens next Friday!

“Almost hourly we updated the weather forecast in the last days”, says Philipp Avenell, communication manager of the Swiss Cycling Alpenbrevet with a relieved smile when on Saturday morning even sunshine could be felt. Despite a dry start, the participants had to put up with rain, especially from midday onwards, but the first hurdles had already been overcome by then and the finish line was already within reach for some.

Accident free Tremola descent

The organizers were also somewhat concerned about the reversal of this year’s Silvertour. Exceptionally, the Tremola had to be mastered as a descent. Fortunately, there were no accidents. The increased presence of the Motomarshalls provided the necessary safety. “The participants took this new constellation with humor and the necessary portion of flexibility. Nevertheless, next year we will do everything we can to ensure that the Tremola Pass road can be ridden again in the usual direction,” says Patrick Huber, head of the Swiss Cycling Alpenbrevet OC. The rest of the Alpine classic also remained without serious incidents.

Comeback for the 45th anniversary

At twelve o’clock the first participants returned to Andermatt, nine hours later the last finisher crossed the finish line. Thus ends another chapter in the history of the Swiss Cycling Alpenbrevet. Next year the event will celebrate its 45th anniversary. “We congratulate every finisher on this extraordinary achievement and would be delighted if many different participants would find their way to Andermatt again next year,” Avenell wishes and already promises a very special comeback. Registration for next year’s event opens next Friday.
